There is good in this world.
Odin Camus is a newly-turned-teen who lives with Aspergers. He was diagnosed with it at age five. He has had a hard time making friends and has been bullied for years.
This is Odin Camus:
When no one responded to his 13th birthday invitation, he was rightfully crushed. His mother Melissa decided to call upon the good in this world for a little help.
The results were phenomenal.
This is what she posted on a local Facebook group page in Peterborough Ontario, Canada:
Media outlets everywhere--like PTBO Canada--took on the story and spread the word for Odin. They also wanted to show Odin he's cared for. It worked.
Sooner than later, Odin's birthday took a sharp turn for the better.
PTBO Canada got further involved and put on quite the birthday bash in Odin's honor.
It turned out to be an amazing 13th birthday for Odin.
Odin's electronics were busy as well.
He received 5,000 "Happy Birthday" text messages on the day and by mid-morning Monday, he'd been tweeted at 32,000 times! That's a lot of birthday love!
While the call-out for Odin's birthday bash went live on Facebook, it wasn't long before Odin has his own hashtag too.
#odinbirthday went viral. It was the most talked about topic on Twitter Canada.
Some celebrities and even whole sports teams took to Twitter to wish Odin the happiest of birthdays.
A little girl even made this awesome cake for Odin.
Here is the homemade cake made just for #odinbirthday:
And there were lots of other special gifts, too. Here is a great example:
Days later, people are still posting under the #odinbirthday hashtag to wish him a happy belated birthday.
In fact, #odinbirthday far from ended on March 20th.
You see, Odin's mom had launched a gofundme campaign called odinbirthday on Feb. 23. The header from the campaign says, "Help Odin manage anxiety/bullies. Before his birthday, donations stood at a mere $120. Just days after #odinbirthday they shot up to $2,660--$1,660 more than the funding goal.
Moreover, there's this:
This story shows the power of social media and good hearts at once. Odin's birthday will be one he won't soon forget---and neither will the world.
Let's make #odinbirthday last forever by treating everyone with loving kindness and respect. #SayNoToBullying
